The World's Toughest Off-Road Tires* Win One of The World's Toughest RalliesApril 29, 2005 In a performance marathon that stretches from Spain to Dakar in the African nation of Senegal, Stephane Peterhansel gave BFGoodrich® tires their fourth consecutive win in one of the world's toughest rallies. It was BFGoodrich tires' sixth victory in the last seven races. Peterhansel, a Frenchman who won the Dakar Rally six times on a motorcycle, then won in a car on BFGoodrich tires in 2004, repeated his four-wheel victory in a Mitsubishi Pajero on BFGoodrichh® Baja T/Ah® tires. His winning time was 52 hours, 31 minutes and 39 seconds. The Dakar rally covers some of the world's toughest terrain as it passes from Spain through Morocco, Mauritania and Mali before entering Senegal.
Peterhansel said the 2005 rally was tougher than the event he won in 2004. "This is a great victory for me," Peterhansel said. "The race was tougher than last year and the margin of victory was slimmer than 2004."
In this year's Dakar Rally, teams were required to use one type of tire for all of the different stages, rather than switch between two tread patterns to accommodate either rocks or sand as had been the case in the past. BFGoodrich Tires brand director Thom Peebles called this year's win, BFGoodrich's sixth out of the last seven races, an incredible achievement. "Building the world's toughest off-road tires means proving them on the world's toughest terrain," Peebles said. "The Dakar Rally is one of the toughest off-road races in the world, and running on one type of tire proves the strength and quality of BFGoodrich tires." *Last year, BFGoodrich tires won more than 75% of major off-road competitions.
