Hot Wheels® Teams Up With The World's Hottest Street Tires™
April 29, 2005

You played with Hot Wheels® cars as a kid. Now four styles of full-size Hot Wheels® wheels, for full-size vehicles, are available exclusively from Discount Tire Co./America's Tire Co.

All four styles are being offered in special packages that include BFGoodrich® g-Force™ T/A®KDW tires. While Mattel has already displayed full-sized machines on the show circuit, the new Hot Wheels® wheels are for sport compacts, sports cars, SUVs, pickups — almost any kind of performance vehicle.

The idea for a full-sized version of Hot Wheels® emerged at the 2001 SEMA Show where Mattel unveiled a full-size version of its legendary "Twin Mill," and tossed around ideas about possible wheels for a real car. The idea session led to mock-ups of samples at the SEMA booth, which led to companies asking for licensing agreements to produce them. Now, those concepts have made their way to market.

The design philosophy was simple, according to Carson Lev, Director, Hot Wheels Adult Licensing and New Business Development. "The wheels had to be cool designs to begin with. Then the label 'Hot Wheels' would make them even cooler."

The concept took off, as good concepts tend to do. In addition to the four styles on the market now, four more are on the way.

Packaging the new Hot Wheels® wheels with The World's Hottest Street Tires™ was a natural decision. Mattel selected BFGoodrich® g-Force™ T/A®KDW tires for both its Deora II and the Twin Mill show vehicles. As Carson Lev says, "BFGoodrich tires have what Mattel is looking for: a very aggressive tread pattern and a look that has it all: speed, power, performance and attitude."

Not surprisingly, there are more ideas and products to come. Carson Lev says a Hot Wheels Edition production vehicle is under discussion, and that a Hot Wheels movie is in the works with Sony Pictures.
