BFG transformed his GMC
June 15, 2004

A truck owner, who wanted a "bigger look" for his GMC Sierra HD2500 short-bed crewcab pickup, brought his ride to Hunters Custom Automotive in Nashville for a makeover by proprietor and famed customizer Johnny Freund. To change the look, Freund and sales specialist Lynn Kidder opted for a switch from the stock 16-inch wheels and tires to 22s.

That meant going to BFGoodrich® Tires' new LT325/55/22D g-force T/A®KDW tire. The massive 22-inch tires are mounted on custom billet 22x10-inch rims. It's important to note that this extreme a jump in tire size involves major modifications. Freund says that the bigger tire/wheel package requires a lift kit to provide the necessary fenderwell clearance, particularly regarding the turning radius of the front wheels.

To make the truck stand out even more, Freund added door handles from an Escalade, along with a custom hood, nerf bars, front and rear bumper covers and a steel billet grill.

The customer was definitely pleased. "He had stars in his eyes when he saw the finished result," Freund says. An additional benefit besides the improved looks was the ride and handling.

"The truck handles and rides considerably better than before," says Kidder. "It was riding on 16-inch tires, on seven-inch wheel rims. Going up to 22s on 10-inch rims provides a lot more air and cushion for the ride than there was before. Besides the bigger footprint of the larger rim size, there's the added benefit that we always see just from going to BFGoodrich tires."
