The Tires That Inspire The Muscle Car's Hustle October 24, 2006
At one time the common perception was that running drag radial tires on street racers would not allow cars to perform more than a ten-second quarter mile. That's all changed with the introduction of BFGoodrich® g-Force T/A® Drag Radial tires, a tire that offers remarkable performance both on and off the track. Steve Wolcott, who runs the NMRA (National Mustang Racing Association) and the NMCA (National Muscle Car Association), two of the world's hottest racing series, says he's witnessed drivers racing with BFGoodrich® tires in his events far surpass what most felt was unreachable only a few years ago. "At one time people thought drag radials couldn't go faster than 9 to 10 seconds on the quarter mile," says Wolcott. "These guys are now doing 8 seconds*. It is incredible. These are well-engineered, well-constructed tires with just the right rubber compound so you can use it on the street and on the strip." He notes that Chad Doyle, the driver who posted the elapsed time record of 8.13 seconds and the top speed record of 172.65 miles per hour in the drag radial category, used BFGoodrich g-Force T/A Drag Radial tires*. Like Doyle, most top drivers on the NMCA Mean Streak Class, as well as the NMRA Ford Nationals, are using BFGoodrich g-Force T/A® Drag Radial tires. Wolcott points out that the record holders in the Factory Stock class of the NMRAs placed their astounding times using BFGoodrich tires. The most remarkable factor about BFGoodrich g-Force T/A® Drag Radial tires is their ability to be used to set records on the track, as well as being driven on the street. "This is a tire you can use on the street and you can use on the track," Wolcott says. "I've seen people pull wheel stands with those tires. They really do hook." And, BFGoodrich tires definitely do deliver the grip to pull spectacular wheel stands as the attached photo attests! * As of 09/18/06 Chad Doyle is the current Drag Radial Class record holder, with an Elapsed Time Record of 8.13 seconds (set 06/18/06 at Reading) and a Top Speed Record of 172.65 mph (set 06/18/06 at Reading).
