Nissan Armada Latest Premium SUV on BFGoodrich® Tires
September 22, 2003

New Nissan SUV flagship sails into dealer showrooms on Rugged Trail T/A® tires
The Armada is Nissan's entry into the full-size SUV market, a ruggedly elegant 8-passenger, V8-powered sport family hauler. Sharing the boxed frame and V8 with the full-size Titan pickup, the Armada completes Nissan's SUV lineup. With three-row seating, the Armada is unquestionably a family vehicle. But with a 300 horsepower, 5.6-liter 32-valve DOHC V8, the Armada is definitely a family performance vehicle.

"Adventure is really the core idea behind the Armada," says Nissan Product Planning Manager Randy Dale. "It's a family vehicle, of course, as an 8-passenger. But it's the type of family who drives to the Grand Canyon and travels by raft and on horseback through the canyon. It's for the adventurous, active family."

The Armada is available with two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The all-wheel drive version is available with an off-road package that includes heavy duty shocks, lower final drive ratio, skid plates and 17-inch rims shod with BFGoodrich® P285/70R17 Rugged Trail T/A® tires, original equipment on many fine SUVs, for obvious reasons.

"We saw BFGoodrich as a great combination of off-road and on-road performance," says Dale. "When the engineers were working on this, we were doing a balancing act between several different components and we found that BFGoodrich was the best. We've just done our press intro for the Armada in Napa Valley, California, and we've gotten many unsolicited compliments from the journalists. They come to us and say, 'Man, those tires really work well.' They're saying that about both the off-road performance and the on-road performance."
