Drive a real Baja race buggy — on BFGoodrich® tires, of course!September 30, 2004 If you've ever dreamed about driving the Baja 1000, Wide Open Baja will make it come true. Wide Open Baja high-adventure vacations give you the chance to drive the rugged Baja peninsula in competition-caliber race buggies, visiting off-road racing landmarks like Diablo Dry Lake, Ojos Negros and Mike's Sky Ranch in the process. Baja 1000 veteran Todd Clements, founder of Wide Open Baja, says the Porsche-powered, two-seat open-wheel race buggies are roughly comparable to Class 10 desert racers, with four-speed synchromesh transmissions and double A-arm suspension front and rear with 20 inches of suspension travel. The vehicles are designed to provide the excitement of a desert racer with the driveability of a passenger car. Underway, participants follow one of several Baja 1000 race veterans who serve as guides, with chase trucks bringing up the rear. Off-road speeds are set by the participants, with the guide leading as quick a pace within reason as the drivers wish to maintain. . Each buggy is equipped with a GPS (Global Positioning System) and car-to-car radio. Cost for the four-day Ensenada package is $3495. The four-day Cabo San Lucas package is $4195 with a $5895 tab for the seven-day Cabo San Lucas run. All accommodations and meals are included.* 
After a challenging, exciting morning of driving, there is a break for lunch at one of the famed eating and watering spots that Baja racers cherish. At day's end, all rough duty is over, and it's time to relax in the most sumptuous accommodations around. Vehicle cleanup, tuning and touchup is done by the Wide Open Baja crew.
