She'd rather race than watch
December 20, 2004

Loan Nguyen watched her boyfriend race for three years before she decided she'd have more fun driving than watching. Now, in her second season of racing, the 24-year-old Nguyen is the winner of the 2004 NDRA (NOPI Drag Racing Association) NOPI Chic all-girl series. Loan drove her K20A-powered Honda Civic Si to five wins in the 10-race series. And scored a quick time for her class with a 12.98 ET and fast trap speed with a 103.

Loan does all her driving and winning on BFGoodrich® g-Force™ T/A®Drag Radial tires. She says the BFGoodrich tires make a big difference in traction, and credits them with a major improvement in her reaction time, which she says is critical in the class she races.

"I showed a .2 second improvement in my 60 ft. (0-to 60 foot acceleration) time when I switched to Drag Radials," says Loan, a resident of Virginia who spends her non-racing work hours behind a desk in a financial institution. Her car is prepared and tuned by NDRA Pro-Street racer Norris Prayoonto, her boyfriend and crew chief. Norris is a top contender in the NDRA Pro Stock class with his Honda Insight.

Loan says a well-prepared and -engineered car is a key to her success on the track. "Having a car that is running well at every race allows me to finish consistently, and to be able to get a good reaction," Loan says. Her goals for the 2004 season were to win the points championship and have the quickest car in the class. She accomplished both. Don't expect to see her return to spectating any time soon.
