BFGoodrich® Tires Win Super Bowl of Supertouring

BFGoodrich® tires dominated the season-ending SJM Guia supertouring race at the Guia road racing circuit in Macau, off the southeast coast of China. Drivers on BFGoodrich tires collected four of the top five qualifying positions in the all-star event, led by Alfa Romeo driver Andre Couto. The Portuguese driver set a new record in qualifying almost two seconds faster than last year's mark and almost a full second ahead of the first non-BFG qualifier.

"I have to say that my car was very good," said Couto, "and the team did a very good job. However, it was clear to me that the new BFGoodrich tires had a crucial role in helping me to smash the old lap record."

Multi-time Dutch touring car champion Duncan Huisman won the event overall in his BMW 320i. It was his third straight victory in the season-ending all-star race. The race is run in two 15 lap heats, with a 15 minute break in between. The driver with the best aggregate time is declared the overall winner, a moot point this year with the 32-year-old Huisman capturing both heats on his BFGoodrich® racing tires.

"I was impressed by the BFGoodrich tires," said Huisman. "We also have used the tires from last year in the free practice, meaning that I was in a position to compare them. I found the new BFGoodrich tires more consistent and also quicker. I had a very good long run on my first set, and they remained consistent for the whole distance."

The SJM Guia race is the "Super Bowl" of the supertouring season, featuring production-based sport compact cars and involving drivers from top supertouring series throughout Europe and Asia.
