BFGoodrich® Tires Official Tire Sponsor of Trans-Am Series Tradition of BFGoodrich® Tires Cup Continues
Greenville, SC

For the fourth consecutive year, BFGoodrich® Tires will be the Official Tire Supplier and presenting sponsor to the Trans-Am Series. Also, BFGoodrich Tires will award the BFGoodrich® Tires Cup to the Trans-Am Series champion at the conclusion of the season.

"We are truly excited about our partnership with the Trans-Am Series," said BFGoodrich Tires Director of Motorsports Herb Johnson. "The Trans-Am is coming off another great year, which included tying both records for the number of different race winners (eight) in a season and the number of victorious marques (five) in a season. This type of exciting, high-end racing is consistent with BFGoodrich Tires' 30-year heritage in motorsports. I can't think of a better tie-in for the brand than our relationship with the Trans-Am Series. We're committed to helping the Series grow as the preeminent form of road racing in North America."

Entering its third year as the season-ending award for the Trans-Am Series champion, the BFGoodrich Tires Cup has quickly become a highly prized championship trophy in road racing.

Developed by graphic artist Stephen France, creator of the Indianapolis 500 PPG Pole Award and the Brickyard 400 Trophy, the BFGoodrich Tires Cup stands approximately 23 inches tall and weighs nearly 50 pounds. It is made from machined aluminum and features a stunning cup, ringed in gold, atop a checkerboard-design base.

The name of each BFGoodrich Tires Cup champion is engraved on one of the five brass disks, located on the trophy's base. After five years, the champion's name will be retired to make way for the new champion. Each BFGoodrich Tires Cup winner receives a "keeper" trophy that is exactly half the size of the original.

Over the past two seasons, the quest for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup has been thrilling and has garnered the attention of every competitor in the series. Paul Gentilozzi and Brian Simo staged a remarkable battle these past two seasons with Gentilozzi capturing the first BFGoodrich Tires Cup in 1999 while Simo got his revenge last year and won his first BFGoodrich Tires Cup.

"BFGoodrich Tires expects to be an integral part of the Trans-Am Series for a long time to come," continued Johnson. "When we established the BFGoodrich Tires Cup, our hope was that through the years the trophy would grow in importance to the competitors and would stand as a symbol of the rich heritage of both the Trans-Am Series and BFGoodrich Tires. I believe it's well on the way to achieving this status, and we all look forward to the battle that will determine this year's winner."
