BFGoodrich® Tires Makes Debut In Hooters Pro Cup Series; Radial Tire Technology Introduced To Teams And Drivers
Greenville, S.C.

The BFGoodrich® Tires is making its debut as the official tire of the USAR Hooters Pro Cup stock car racing series in Lakeland, Fla. this weekend. Teams will race on Traction T/A® radial racing tires for the first time in series history.

"We've put in a lot of long hours developing and testing these tires and we're ready to go racing," said Todd Steen, motorsports marketing manager for BFGoodrich Tires. "Our tires will bring a new level of competition to USAR and help teams and drivers build their experience and grow within the sport."

When teams take the green flag, it will mark the first time in series history that Hooters Pro Cup Series cars will be driven on radial tires in competition. The Traction T/A radial replaces the older bias-ply tire technology and BFGoodrich Tires engineers and designers have been working closely with series officials and teams to ensure that the new tires perform above expectations.

BFGoodrich is providing two sizes of Traction T/A tires. The right side of the vehicle will utilize 27.0 x 10.0 R 15 and the left side will be equipped with 26.5 x 10.0 R 15. The two sizes are required to provide the appropriate amount of side-to-side "stagger" for fast-paced short-track racing. In addition, the two sizes will help teams maximize performance through the corners and will offer improved wear and consistent results during long green-flag runs. Up to two left-side tread compounds and up to three right-side tread compounds will be offered due to the different types of tracks visited during the racing season.

"There is no doubt that the new Traction T/A radial tire has brought added excitement at the track," said Gene Cox, President of the USAR Hooters ProCup Series. "Tires play a critical role in a team's performance each week and we are extremely pleased to have such a quality and respected tire in our series."

In November 2003, BFGoodrich Tires signed a multi-year agreement to become the official tire supplier for the 2004 Hooters ProCup stock car racing series. To ease the transition from the older bias-tire technology to modern radial racing tires, BFGoodrich will have engineering support at all USAR events during the 2004 season.

The Hooters ProCup series is sanctioned by United Speed Alliance Racing and the 30-race schedule will award over $3 million in posted awards this year. Drivers compete in 3,300-pound, full-sized steel-bodied Ford, Chevrolet, Pontiac or Dodge stock cars. This exciting series had more than 170 drivers from 18 states and Canada register to compete in 2003.
