March 23, 2004 BFGoodrich® Tires Renames Comp T/A® Drag Radial To g-Force T/A Drag Radial Greenville, S.C. BFGoodrich® Tires is renaming its line of Comp T/A® Drag Radials to g-Force T/A Drag Radial. The new name reflects the brand's strategy of grouping high-performance tires under the g-Force T/A name. The newly named tires will arrive in stores on April 1, 2004. Initially, the new tire will keep the proven Comp T/A Drag Radial tire tread pattern. The only change will be to the tire's sidewall and naming. The new sidewall will feature the g-Force T/A Drag Radial name and the additional sizes will be marketed and sold under the new name. Plans call for discontinuing the Comp T/A tire's tread pattern and replacing it with the new g-Force Drag Radial tread design. "This is a positive move for the tire, our dealers and our consumers," said John Hampson, performance category manager for BFGoodrich Tires. "The g-Force line of products is known around the world as one of the premier lines of ultra-high-performance tires. Changing the Comp T/A Drag Radial name makes perfect sense and the result will be a competition-ready tire line that features 23 sizes ranging from 14- to 18-inches." By incorporating the Comp T/A Drag Radial line into the g-Force T/A Drag Radial line, the new combined line will now feature two tread designs and 23 dimensions, including three 14-inches, nine 15-inch, one 16-inch, four 17-inch and the six 18-inch sizes. The change will take place progressively during the second and the third quarter of 2004 with all sizes planned to be completed by the fourth quarter. The Comp T/A Drag Radial has been one of the most widely publicized and most successful drag radials ever used in competition. In addition to clinching the NOPI Drag Racing Association (NDRA) championship in 2003, BFGoodrich's Comp T/A Drag Radial set a new world record for the fastest time on a U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT)-approved tire. Paul Efantis drove his Toyota Supra to a new world record in the NDRA BFGoodrich Pro Street Class by ripping off an 8.25 second quarter mile at 170.8 m.p.h. With the world record, Efantis beat his own previous mark set on the same tire. "The only change that competitors will notice initially is the g-Force name on the sidewall of the tire," said Todd Steen, motorsports marketing manager for BFGoodrich Tires. "The performance and the reputation of the Comp T/A Drag Radial will live on as a part of the g-Force T/A Drag Radial line." BFGoodrich® Tires combines technological expertise with vast motorsports experience, delivering a high-performance tire for every type of vehicle from ultra-high performance tuner vehicles, sports cars and SUVs to the hottest sport trucks, pickups and rock-crawling rigs in the world.
