April 14, 2008 BFGoodrich® Tires Supports Chasing Baja Documentary on SPEED GREENVILLE, S.C.
To commemorate the 40th running of off-road racing's oldest and most prestigious event, the SCORE Baja 1000, the producers of Rides and Overhaulin' collaborated with BFGoodrich Tires to create a feature-length documentary film appropriately titled Chasing Baja. Scheduled to air April 18 at 8 p.m. EST on SPEED, the documentary features the challenges of a uniquely assembled race team, both on and off the course during the toughest off-road race in North America. The documentary also includes captivating footage of chase operations, pit stops and driver changes while showcasing BFGoodrich's newest light truck tire, the Mud-Terrain T/A® KM2. "BFGoodrich is proud to have a part in showcasing our products and our legacy at the signature event for off-road racing," said Tom Jupena, marketing communications manager for BFGoodrich Tires. "We are confident that Chasing Baja will reflect the passion and drive our brand has for the future of the sport and its rich history." The team that was assembled to tackle the grueling 1,296-mile off-road race includes rock-crawling champion Tracy Jordan, television producer Bud Brutsman, NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series racer Erin Crocker and former Navy SEAL Bill Weber. BFGoodrich Tires, the official tire for SCORE International has been an integral partner for more than 30 years, which makes the BFGoodrich Tires BC-13 team the perfect subject for this unique project. Crocker, from Wilbraham, MA, began her racing career at the tender age of seven in quarter-midget sprint cars and over the course of her extensive career has earned rides in the USAC, ARCA, the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Weber, a retired Navy SEAL turned off-road enthusiast, now works as a consultant for several off-road motorsports-related companies supporting vehicle development and training. He is also a guide for Wide Open Baja Adventure Tours and has two Baja 1000 victories to his credit. Jordan, a rock-crawling pioneer who holds several rock-crawling championship titles, is also an off-road racing veteran, having run the Baja 1000 in 2004 and 2006. The team is anchored by Brutsman, who is the creator and executive producer for Celebrity Rides and Hot Rod TV along with The Learning Channel's Overhaulin' and Rides and has two Baja 1000 races in 2005 and 2006 to his credit. Nearly 350 entries from more than 40 states and 15 countries, competing in 18 Pro and Sportsman classes for cars and trucks, plus additional classes for motorcycles and ATVs took part in this year's SCORE Baja 1000. It's the oldest and most well known of all desert races, and it remains the single most appealing accomplishment for any racer. Since 1967, the granddaddy of all desert races has been run over the mysterious Baja California peninsula every year except 1974 when the international fuel crisis forced a cancellation. Using motorsports as a proving ground for more than 30 years, BFGoodrich Tires is involved in every type of racing, including oval, sports car, drifting, drag, desert, dirt, rally (Dakar and WRC) and extreme rock crawling. BFGoodrich Tires combines technological expertise with vast motorsports experience, delivering a high performance tire for every type of vehicle. |
