BFGoodrich® Traction T/A® Racing Slick Debuts At ASA Superspeedway Race; New Tire Shows Excellent Performance And Durability
Greenville, S.C.

The BFGoodrich® Tires Traction T/A® racing slick made its first ever appearance at a superspeedway this past weekend at the American Speed Association's (ASA) BFGoodrich Tires 125 at Kentucky Speedway.

The BFGoodrich Traction T/A tires used this past weekend during the 125-lap, 187-mile race featured a different stagger arrangement and a harder rubber compound to compensate for the higher temperatures of superspeedway racing compared to those found on traditional ASA short track race venues.

"We have raced numerous high-speed races with slicks ranging from Le Mans to the 24 Hours of Daytona, but this is the first time we have used slicks on high-banked speedways in stock car racing," said Todd Steen, motorsports marketing manager for BFGoodrich Tires. "Tire stability during the race was outstanding, even during several long runs and we were extremely happy with what we saw. The lap times were steady with little drop off as the new tires showed they were more than capable of the rigors of longer corners and high-speed straightaways."

Rookie Scott Lagasse, Jr. took home the win by the length of his front fender in the BFGoodrich Tires 125. One of the top story lines centered on another rookie, second place finisher Wade Day. Day completed the entire race without changing left-side tires. Lagasse, Jr. caught Day during a last lap charge that required series officials to use video replay to determine the winner.

The BFGoodrich Traction T/A superspeedway tires will be used in four additional races this year including Charlotte, N.C., Atlanta, Ga., Milwaukee, Wis. (Milwaukee Mile) and a return trip to the Kentucky Speedway.

BFGoodrich Tires began its relationship with ASA in 2000, introducing the Traction T/A radial racing tire, converting the series from traditional bias-ply tires to the newer, more advanced radial technology. The addition of the new superspeedway tire is the first time that BFGoodrich Tires has designed a tire specifically for stock car racing on high-banked superspeedways.

Since the ASA National Tour made the switch to the radial tires, teams have run nearly 850,000 laps, translating into more than 457,000 miles on BFGoodrich Traction T/A tires in official competition, not including preseason or in-season testing.

BFGoodrich® Tires combines technological expertise with vast motorsports experience, delivering a high-performance tire for every type of vehicle from ultra-high performance tuner vehicles, sports cars and SUVs to the hottest sport trucks, pickups and rock-crawling rigs in the world.
