May 25, 2003 BFGoodrich's® Commitment to Off-Road Is About More Than Checkered Flags and Championships Greenville, SC To say that BFGoodrich® is the dominant tire in off road is like saying that Mt. Everest is a really big mountain. It's true, but it definitely leaves out more than a few important details. Undoubtedly, the most visible elements of that dominance are BFG's remarkable achievements in racing, including multiple championships in every CORR season since the series began in 1998. Last year, seven of a possible eight season titles were won on BFGoodrich tires. In addition to their outstanding performance in CORR, racers running on BFGoodrich tires have earned more wins and championships in SCORE and Best in the Desert than have been won on any other tire brand. Most recently, BFG began offering a full support and contingency program in rockcrawling competition, one of the fastest growing off-road sports in the United States. Given that 2002 was a development year for BFG's special-purpose tire for the sport, the Krawler T/A® KX, the results were astounding. Competitors using BFGoodrich tires, either the Krawler T/A KX or the Mud-Terrain T/A® KM, won about 60 percent of the classes in which they competed and earned seven out of a possible 10 major championships. However, in order to get a complete picture of BFG's presence in the off-road market, one needs to look beyond the spotlight of competition at a commitment that's about a lot more than collecting checkered flags and championship trophies. One key to the brand's staying power is the support it provides to competitors, including a pitting network and a radio setup that helps racers stay in touch with their crews. Another is technology. Ever since BFGoodrich® introduced the world's first performance off-road radial in 1976, the Radial All-Terrain T/A®, it has kept its tires at the forefront of the market. And it's done it by using competition to develop the technologies for the future. BFG also has a major presence in a full range of other activities, running the gamut from family-oriented trail rides to the extreme end of recreational off-roading. There's plenty going on behind the scenes, too. Take for instances the series of seminars that BFG offers to those who sell tires to consumers. Over the years, the brand has contracted with off-road legend Rod Hall to put on technical seminars that feature a hands-on driving experience in all types of conditions for dealers and their sales staffs. The aim is to provide them with knowledge about the differences in performance from one type of tire to another so they can make better recommendations to their customers. It's all part of BFGoodrich's long-term commitment to off-road, and you can't argue with more than a quarter century of success. BFGoodrich tires, made for people looking to take control of the driving experience, combine technological expertise with the experience gained in motorsports to offer a traction advantage for almost every type of vehicle and driving preference. |
