BFGoodrich® Tires and Signal Auto Score Hat Trick In Recent Performance Testing; Skyline GT-R Breaks One 'g' In Three Separate Events
Greenville, S.C.

BFGoodrich® Tires and Signal Auto recently scored a hat trick during tests of the BFGoodrich g-Force™ T/A®KD tire at The Tire Rack.

A Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R, tuned by Signal Auto, Osaka, Japan, and equipped with BFGoodrich g-Force T/AKD tires, broke the 1 g barrier not once, not twice, but three times in a recent test. And, in three different performance areas.

Piloted by Kousuke Kida, president of Signal Auto, the chameleon-colored GT-R handily exceeded 1 g in cornering, acceleration and braking tests.

BFGoodrich g-Force T/AKD Tire Test Results:

Cornering (lateral g, two way avg. on 200-ft. diam. skidpad):    1.080 g
Acceleration (straight-line acceleration, two run avg., peak):    1.092 g
Braking (straight-line deceleration, two run avg., peak):    1.130 g

"If you are serious about vehicle performance, these numbers are absolutely incredible," said Thom Peebles, brand director for BFGoodrich Tires. "Not only did we break a 'g' in one test, we broke it in three totally different tests using a car that was set up for road racing, with off-the-shelf tires."

The BFGoodrich g-Force T/AKD tires fitted to the GT-R were not DOT-approved racing tires, which are often found on competition vehicles. The tires fitted to the GT-R were real street tires — standard, full-tread-depth, off-the-shelf g-Force T/AKD tires that any consumer can purchase at their preferred tire dealer.

"I've never heard of a street car achieving this combination of performance before," said John Rastetter, director tire information services at The Tire Rack. "While we've had cars attain 1 g in braking on our test track, only a few have ever broken the barrier in cornering, and this is the first time that it has been achieved while accelerating on Max Performance street tires. The g-Force T/AKD really delivered its Key benefit of Dry performance."

Not only is this the first time a street car has pulled "3 g's," the 1.080 lateral g achieved is the highest ever recorded for a street car at The Tire Rack facility, which annually hosts the Skidpad Challenge segments of the Tire Rack Cannonball One Lap of America.

BFGoodrich g-Force T/AKD tires also achieved the highest lateral acceleration on any sport compact car (1.01 g) at the 2004 Tire Rack Cannonball One Lap of America Skidpad Challenge.

All performance testing was conducted at The Tire Rack's test facility in South Bend, Ind. using the Crest Industries RF Auto Timer to measure laps of the skidpad and a Vericom VC2000 Performance Computer to measure straight-line acceleration and braking. Test results have been certified by The Tire Rack's professional testers.

Signal Auto's Kida-san said, "If you are serious about the performance of your vehicle, you will want to try the g-Force T/AKD tire. We knew the tire was good from our experience with it in both drifting and time attack events, but had no idea it could break a 'g' three times in three different tests."

The g-Force T/AKD tire was designed specifically for ultra-high performance vehicles and for those serious about getting the most out of their vehicle's performance. The tire features a low void asymmetric/directional tread design that optimizes dry/max handing outboard (21-percent void) and wet handling optimized inboard (31-percent void).

BFGoodrich Tires used its proprietary BlackTech™ tread compound and focused on incorporating large, stable block elements with a wide center rib and high contact surface ratio. "This tire was designed for performance," said John Hampson, ultra-high performance category manager for BFGoodrich Tires. "From Skyline GT-Rs to Stage 3 Roush Mustangs, the g-Force T/AKD tire has shown it is capable of things beyond our own design expectations."

Signal Auto has selected BFGoodrich Tires as their official tire supplier using the g-Force T/AKD tire for their drifting and time attack competition vehicles.
