July 11, 2002 Teams Running on BFGoodrich® Tires Lead Overall Points, 14 Classes in Optima SCORE Desert Series Championship Greenville, SC As the 2002 Optima SCORE Desert Series heads into the second half of the season at this weekend's inaugural Terrible's 250 in Henderson, Nev., teams running on BFGoodrich® tires are very much in control of the contests for year-end honors. With three to go in the six-race series, they lead the championship points in 14 of the 15 classes in which they compete. Leading the charge is Troy Herbst, who tops the list in overall points as well as in Class 1 with his Terrible Herbst Motorsports Ford-powered Smithbuilt open-wheel racer. All told, the BFGoodrich Tires off-road team holds four of the top five spots in the overall standings. In addition to Herbst, drivers who race on BFGoodrich tires and lead the points in their respective classes include: Scott Steinberger, Trophy-Truck; Kash Vessels, Class 1-2/1600; Donald and Kenneth Moss, Class 3; George Seeley, Class 5; Allan Gregory, Class 5/1600; Craig Turner, Class 7; Dan Fresh, Class 7S; Nick Vanderwey, Class 8; Arturo Velasco, Class 9; Mark Hutchins, Class 10; Ken Stroud, SCORE Lites; Eric Solorzano, Class 11; and John Griffin, Stock Full. Besides dominating the points, teams equipped with BFGoodrich tires have earned 32 out of a possible 42 class victories, for a 76 percent win rate in the first three events. (Classes where there were no finishers were not included in the total.) "Teams running the BFGoodrich brand have delivered extraordinary performances so far this year, and we're so very proud to be working with them," said Frank DeAngelo, manager of the BFGoodrich brand's off-road racing program. "Their successes are especially gratifying given how much the sport has grown. The competition is closer than ever, and we're seeing new teams and new vehicles at each race. Adding a sixth event to the series, this weekend's Terrible's 250, is another sign that the sport is healthy and getting stronger. I think that's great news for all of us — the racers, the sponsors and the manufacturers who put their products to the off-road test." BFGoodrich® tires are made for people looking to take control of the driving experience. They combine the experience gained on and off the racetrack with technological expertise to offer a traction advantage for almost every type of vehicle and driving preference. |
