August 17, 2003 BFGoodrich® Tires Riding High On Rocky Top BFGoodrich® Tires took its first step towards sweeping the 2003 rock crawling season by clinching the 2003 Eastern Rock Crawling Championship (EROCC) in the state where rocks are as plentiful as people who sing the song "Rocky Top". Ken Shupe and Mike Cole scored victories in the final round of the EROCC series in Jellico, TN giving BFGoodrich Tires its first rock crawling championship of the year and its first back-to-back series victory this year. Rock crawling is one of the fastest growing sports in the U.S. and involves both men and women being scored based on their successful timed completion of obstacles on some of the most challenging off-road courses in the world. "We race to win and we will settle for nothing less than repeating last year's five series championships," said Jeff Cummings, off-road motorsports manager for BFGoodrich Tires. "With one down and four to go, we are well on our way." One of the key factors behind BFGoodrich's success in this growing sport is the Krawler T/A®KX rock crawling tire. Another is technology. Ever since BFGoodrich introduced the world's first performance off-road radial in 1976, the Radial All-Terrain T/A®, it has kept its tires at the forefront of the market. And it's done by using competition to develop the technologies for the future. "The sport of rock crawling is the perfect proving ground for our light-truck product technology," said Scott Dishman, light-truck category product manager for BFGoodrich. "The experience we gain and the championships we win in the mountains and in the deserts pays off when a consumer walks into a dealer and asks what makes BFG better than the competition." |
