September 27, 2002 BFGoodrich® Tires Take GT-1 Championship over Hoosier, Goodyear Lexington, OH BFGoodrich® tires, a brand with long-standing superiority off-road and on the pavement, sailed into a tremendous first-place victory at the SCCA Valvoline Runoffs® GT-1 Championship on Saturday, September 21 at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. Tim Cowen, riding in a Ford Mustang shod with BFGoodrich® g-Force T/A tires, held the pole position at the start of the race, and despite an early bump to second place, returned with a roar to beat out competitors on Hoosier and Goodyear treads. "After coming so close the last two years, I could not have scripted it better than to come back in the last two laps to win," said Cowen. "I thought that Cliff (Ebben, second-place competitor) was going to run away but my BFGoodrich tires began to come in later in the race. I caught Cliff and it looked as if his tires were going away. I was able to get up inside him in the Keyhole, he went wide, and I was able to get by." "The g-Force T/A tire has always exceeded our expectations, and their performance at the Runoffs continues that tradition," said Herb Johnson, Director of Motorsports for BFGoodrich® tires. "We are excited about taking what we've learned in Trans-Am and applying it to the GT1 category of the SCCA and to the BFGoodrich® g-Force® family of street tires. For a number of years we dominated the showroom stock classes of SCCA Club racing. So it is very gratifying to return and get this victory." BFGoodrich tires, made for people looking to take control of the driving experience, combine technological expertise with the experience gained in motorsports to offer a traction advantage for almost every type of vehicle and driving preference. |
