BFGoodrich® Tires today announced John Casey from Red Bluff, Calif., is the winner of its 2003 Karnivore Sweepstakes. Read more about the Karnivore. "Winning the Karnivore has been a surreal experience, and I still can't believe I even got the call," said Casey. "I'm planning on entering a rock-crawling competition in October, so the timing of this fantastic prize from BFGoodrich couldn't be better." Casey assumed ownership of the Karnivore, designed for the most extreme of rock-crawling events, at the Second Annual United Rock Crawling & Off-Road Challenge (UROC) in St. George, Utah. UROC SuperCrawl is the biggest rock-crawling event in the world, with more than 100 of the top rock crawlers battling for the championship. Read more about the UROC Supercrawl. Rolling over anything in its path on BFGoodrich Krawler T/AKX tires and Sway-A-Way shocks, Karnivore is set on an Avalanche Engineering Zero-G chassis with Dynatrac axles sending power to all four Trail Ready wheels through an Advance Adapter's Atlas transfer case. A Howe Steering setup takes care of precision maneuvering while a Warn winch up front masks a Chevy V-8 powerplant under the hood. "From climbing sideways, to navigating impossible angles, the Karnivore gives way to unlimited off-roading possibilities," said Scott Dishman, marketing manager for BFGoodrich light-truck tires. "It's outfitted with BFGoodrich Krawler T/AKX tires, which offer an ultra-aggressive deep-lug tread pattern and one of the most puncture-resistant sidewalls to allow the Karnivore to crawl up vertical grades unassisted." BFGoodrich® Tires combines technological expertise with vast motorsports experience, delivering a high-performance tire for every type of vehicle from ultra-high performance tuner vehicles, sports cars and SUVs to the hottest sport trucks, pickups and rock-crawling rigs in the world. For more than 30 years, BFGoodrich Tires has used motorsports as a proving ground. Success on the street begins with winning on the track, and BFGoodrich Tires is involved in every type of racing, including oval, road, drag, desert and extreme rock crawling. With 17 consecutive Baja 1000 wins, the winningest tire in rock-crawling history, and an unmatched record on pavement, BFGoodrich Tires has proven the only records it breaks are its own. Michael "John" Casey John Casey, 44, has enjoyed the sport off-roading for more than 26 years. When Casey heard he was the winner of BFGoodrich Tires Karnivore Sweepstakes, it took him a couple of days for the news to sink in. In fact, Casey couldn't sleep because of his excitement. Originally from Red Bluff, Calif., Casey bought his first four-wheel drive vehicle shortly after high school. His vehicle became more of a necessity to get around town where some roads were not usually paved. As a result, Casey learned that he could do more with his vehicle and took a try at off-roading - he became hooked from the very first run! Currently, Casey takes the open road in his white Chevy Silverado pick-up, he loves a chance at some friendly competition with other 4-wheelers. Although his off-roading experience is strictly recreational, Casey once competed at the amateur level and won 1st place in a local mud bogg event. He's also affiliated with a local car club called the "Midnight Mudders" who ride on the weekends. Casey still resides in Red Bluff with his wife Diane and two sons, Shane and Seth. |
