BFGoodrich® Tires Sets Sights on First U.S. JGTC Race; Supports #43 Autobacs Racing Team Aguri in GT300 Class Championship Bid
Las Vegas, NV

BFGoodrich® Tires is setting its sights on the first Japan Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC) race in the United States as it supports the #43 Autobacs Racing Team Aguri ARTA Garaiya in its fight for first place in the hotly contested JGTC GT300 class.

Equipped with custom-made BFGoodrich tires based on the brand's expertise in multiple forms of pavement racing, the #43 ARTA Garaiya car has performed well in the early rounds of JGTC competition. Team drivers Morio Nitta and Shinichi Takagi will share duties in the endurance-style series, attempting to fend off a rabid pack of highly tuned Acura NSXs, Toyota Supras, Mazda RX-7s and Ferrari 360 Modenas.

The JGTC makes a special December visit to the United States, giving the #43 ARTA Garaiya drivers a chance to take over first place in the GT300 class and an opportunity to demonstrate to American fans the superb control and durability of BFGoodrich tires. Currently, Nitta and Shinichi are seven points behind first place, having won round four at Tokachi Speedway and round five at the Twin Motegi track. An added bonus for U.S. fans, both drivers will appear in the BFGoodrich Tires booth at SEMA, signing autographs and mingling with show-goers on Thursday,
November 4.

"BFGoodrich Tires supports nearly every form of racing ranging from stock car racing to the Paris-Dakar Rally," said Todd Steen, BFGoodrich Tires motorsports marketing manager. "The JGTC provides for some incredible racing and as a great proving ground for the World's Fastest Street Radials. The JGTC differs from what many United States fans are accustomed to and we are extremely excited to support team ARTA as it continues its drive for the GT300 class championship."

An automotive experience unlike any other, the JGTC, Japan's top motorsports series, will explode onto the U.S. scene at the California Speedway in Fontana, Calif., Dec. 18 and 19. The JGTC has enjoyed a cult-like following in the United States for years and is credited with many current popular tuning trends. With the growth of the sport-compact and tuning industry, interest in the exclusive Japanese endurance racing series has grown exponentially, and anticipation of the first stateside visit of the JGTC has begun to reach new heights. Divided into two classes - GT500 and GT300 (the 500 and 300 denote engine output in horsepower) - the JGTC provides paint-swapping excitement in an action-packed and unique format.

The two-day JGTC extravaganza includes more than just qualifying and racing. Other unique and exciting automotive components include drifting competitions, a Japan-against-the-world time attack, pitting the top three GT500 and GT300 finishers against six international competitors, JGTC driver demo runs and a 'run-what-you-brung' autocross.
