November 12, 2001 Teams Running on BFGoodrich® Tires Sweep Tecate SCORE Baja 1000; Win Overall for 16th Consecutive Year Greenville, SC BFGoodrich® Tires teams, which have dominated the Duralast SCORE Desert Series all season, were perfect at the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000, the tour's final round. Not only did they earn their 16th consecutive overall victory for four-wheel vehicles at the granddaddy of off-road races, they also won every class in which they competed. To do it, they met the challenge of a tight, twisty 667-mile course that was true to the Baja's reputation for rugged, rough terrain punctuated with silt and sharp rocks. Of 226 entries, only 104 were able to finish the event, held Nov. 9-10 and based in Ensenada, a resort community on the northern end of Mexico's Baja Peninsula. The first four-wheel vehicle to take the checkered flag was the Chevrolet-powered Jimco open-wheel racer driven by Doug Fortin and Charlie Townsley. In a flawless performance, the pair averaged 46.39 mph for the 667-mile distance, finishing in 14 hours 35 minutes 42 seconds to capture the Class 1 trophy as well as overall honors. In the premier Trophy-Truck division, Dave Ashley, Dan Smith and their Ford F-150 posted their third-straight win of the season. In all, teams using BFGoodrich tires finished the standings in 16 classes to score their clean sweep. (There were no finishers in the Class 11 and Stock Mini categories, both of which showed BFGoodrich-shod vehicles in the lead when the 30-hour time limit for finishers expired.). Following is a complete list of BFGoodrich Tires winners.
