BFGoodrich® Tires To Drive Around The World; 32,000-mile Expedition To Aid Parkinson's Disease Research
Greenville, SC

BFGoodrich® Tires is set to make off-road history as it joins the 32,000-mile LONGITUDE Expedition to circumnavigate the globe to raise funds for Parkinson's disease research and promote geography awareness and scientific research projects for school children.

The unprecedented journey is being undertaken by the not-for-profit exploration group, Drive Around The World. BFGoodrich Tires, the official tire of this unique trek, is providing its popular Mud Terrain T/A®KM tires for the nine-month tour that will travel to 34 countries and cross four continents.

"We are very pleased to be a part of the Drive Around The World expedition," said Thom Peebles, brand director for BFGoodrich Tires. "Not only is this expedition raising money for Parkinson's disease research, but it gives us the opportunity to put the Mud Terrain T/AKM through nine-months of the most extreme on- and off-road testing on earth."

The BFGoodrich Mud Terrain T/AKM has been designed specifically for off-road use and offers enthusiasts the perfect combination of performance and durability. Most recently, the popular off-road tire was named one of the top ten most influential off-road products of all time by JP magazine, the magazine for Jeep enthusiasts. In addition to demonstrating success off-road, the Mud Terrain T/AKM provides a comfortable ride on the pavement featuring excellent tread wear and handling.

Beginning this month, nine team members will embark on the global philanthropic adventure, driving four, 2003 certified pre-owned Land Rover Discovery vehicles. The journey begins in San Jose, California and will travel to the southern tip of South America — Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego. The vehicles will then be shipped to Perth, Australia where the team will drive across the 900-mile "gun barrel" highway, before departing to the Indonesian island of Flores and a northbound trip through Asia and the harsh cold of Siberia.

The team will then depart from Singapore and drip through the Thai peninsula traveling toward India. From India, the expedition will drive the highest road in the world — at 19,000 feet — and cross the Himalayas in Tibet reaching the deserts of China and Kazakhstan moving into Russia and eastern Siberia. Finally, the expedition moves to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska for a drive down the Dalton and Alcan highways arriving at the finishing line in San Francisco.

During the course of the nine-month expedition, five pre-selected pairs of teachers in the U.S. will use an additional expedition vehicle to visit schools and local events in an effort to promote the free, online educational Web site at www.drivearoundtheworld.com. By accessing the site, students can connect with the expedition team as they make their way around the world.

100 percent of every contribution to the LONGITUDE Expedition will go directly to the fight against Parkinson's Disease, a progressive neurological disorder that knows no borders and affects more than one and a half million Americans and countless undiagnosed people throughout the world. Currently there is no cure, but researchers agree that the science is ahead of the funding, and all avenues toward a cure have been identified. Headquartered in Sunnyvale, California, the Parkinson's Institute is a world-class treatment center recognized as a leader in research and patient care.
