November 17, 2005BFGoodrich® Tires Memorializes 30 Years of SCORE Baja Desert Domination Ensenada, Mexico Ensenada, Mexico is home to the world's most challenging desert racethe Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. For 30 years, BFGoodrich® Tires has stepped up to the challenge and dominated the treacherous desert terrain. After 19 consecutive SCORE Baja 1000 wins, the BFGoodrich Tires name is inexorably connected with SCORE Baja racing, and now a commemorative monument will create a more enduring connection. The monument was revealed today outside the Riviera del Pacifico Convention Center on Boulevard Costero, at a press conference directed by Ensenada Mayor, César Mancillas Amador, SCORE President/CEO, Sal Fish, and BFGoodrich Tires Brand Director, Owen Schiano. "We are honored to be recognized by the City of Ensenada," said Schiano. "We at BFGoodrich Tires are proud to have helped desert racing reach the status of a world-class sport and to have a small piece of Ensenada to call our own." The monument, designed by the City of Ensenada, commemorates both BFGoodrich Tires' significant role in the history of the SCORE Baja 1000 as well as SCORE desert racing. Standing at nine feet high, the monument will be a centerpiece in the heart of Ensenada. The monument features a commemorative plaque saluting both BFGoodrich and SCORE, written in both English and Spanish. "BFGoodrich and SCORE have developed a symbiotic relationship over three powerful decades," said Sal Fish, President/CEO of SCORE International. "BFGoodrich tires have been the staple of SCORE racing and the No. 1 choice of the world's best desert racers. BFGoodrich has helped SCORE build a lasting legacy in motorsports history, and especially in Baja California, Mexico." Over the past three decades, countless drivers have taken top overall or class honors in desert races on BFGoodrich tires. Legendary names like Bob Gordon and son Robby Gordon, Larry Ragland, Mark McMillin, Rod Hall, Rob MacCahren and Troy Herbst have helped create and extend the BFGoodrich Tires legacy of SCORE Baja desert domination by taking the overall win at the granddaddy of desert races. Throughout its three decades of desert racing, BFGoodrich Tires has seen tire competitors come and go. At the height of tire competition in the mid 1980s, nine tire companies fought their battles off-road. Many companies and brands have tried to stake their claim in off-road racing, using the desert as a way to promote their products and gain notoriety. Through it all, BFGoodrich Tires has passionately and consistently delivered the tires that teams need to win, the support they need to compete, and the experience synonymous with SCORE Baja desert racing. BFGoodrich Tires combines technological expertise with vast motorsports experience, delivering a high-performance tire for every type of vehicle from ultra-high performance tuner vehicles, sports cars and SUVs to the hottest sport trucks, pickups and rock-crawling rigs in the world. BFGoodrich Tires has built its reputation on using motorsports as a proving ground. Success on the street begins with winning on the track and BFGoodrich Tires is involved in every type of racing, including oval, road, drag, desert and extreme rock-crawling. With 19 consecutive SCORE Baja 1000 wins, the most wins in rock-crawling history and an unmatched record on pavement, BFGoodrich Tires has proven the only records it breaks are its own.
