With the victory in the four-wheel category, BFGoodrich continues to reinforce its position as the tire of choice for Baja 1000 winners and off-road enthusiasts. Doug Fortin and Charlie Townsley, Jr. drove their Class 1 buggy to the duo's second overall SCORE Baja 1000 victory on BFGoodrich Baja T/AKR tires.
The team finished the race in 16:24:02 at an average speed of 49.27 miles per hour. The team last took home the overall honors in 2001.
"You cannot put into words the importance of this victory," said Jeff Cummings, off-road motorsports manager for BFGoodrich Tires. "So many people have worked so many hours to make this a reality. Congratulations to all of the winners and to SCORE for holding undoubtedly one of the most exciting and challenging Baja 1000s ever."
In one of the most difficult Baja 1000 races to date, competitors had to navigate a twisty 800-mile course that was true to the Baja's reputation for rugged, rough terrain punctuated with silt beds and sharp rocks.In all, teams using BFGoodrich tires finished first in 13 of the 14 classes in which they competed.
