BFGoodrich® Tires Continues Heritage Of Using Racing To Improve Products Sold to Consumers
Greenville, SC

In 1976, the BFGoodrich® brand introduced the world's first performance light-truck radial, the Radial All-Terrain T/A®. To prove the durability and reliability of radials in off-road conditions, the engineers put the tire to the toughest test they could find: SCORE desert racing.

Since then, racing the tires it sells to the public and using motorsports as the breeding ground for the technology of the future has become a rich tradition at BFGoodrich® Tires. The lessons learned in competition have helped engineers make improvements in, among other things, traction control, durability and tread life.

In fact, the BFGoodrich brand’s celebrated TriGard® construction, which calls for a three-ply carcass and has been a key to the brand's reputation for exceptional durability, was developed directly from the knowledge gained through off-road racing.

Along with the technical achievements came extraordinary success in motorsports. Racers riding on BFGoodrich tires clearly have dominated the sport, both on closed-course circuits in the Midwest and in the desert where they have taken first overall in 16 consecutive SCORE Baja 1000s, including last year’s double-your-fun event, the Baja 2000.

In addition, this year they won 16 of 17 2001 SCORE Class Championships and all of the CORR Pro division titles. Also on the list of bragging rights are overall victories at the 1999 and 2000 editions of the Paris-Dakar rally, and the overall record for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

Perhaps one the brand’s most enduring off-road relationships is with the legendary Rod Hall, who has taken his BFGoodrich tires-equipped HUMMER to eight class wins and a championship in SCORE, and 10 class win and a title in the Best In The Desert Series.

When the BFGoodrich brand says its light-truck tires are Baja tough, it has decades of proof to backup the claim.
