Very Poor Tire Wear

By Maurerhoats

from USA

Comments about Mud-Terrain T/A KM:

At approx. 10,000 miles, the ride on my 2014 Unlimited Rubicon started to become noisy and rough at low speeds. This condition has continued to worsen and I am now approaching 20,000 miles. My jeep came stock with 255/75R/17 Mud-Terrain T/A KM tires. After looking at my front tires this weekend, I noticed excessive tread wear on every other tread across the width of the tire. After searching this on the internet, there are on-line pictures that could be my tires. The rear tires look almost new. All of my driving is normal pavement, no off roading. I never considered that a tire with so much tread would wear like this. I took to the dealership and they directed me to a local tire shop. They recommended I replace the two front tires and get an alignment. After reading on-line, I am not convinced this will fix the problem and am wondering if I will have to replace tires every 10,000 miles to have a decent ride. I am very disappointed with the performance of this tire. I called the BFG service desk and they are directing me to an authorized tire store. So perhaps there is hope there. They also told me they recommend an alignment every 5,000 miles. I assume that is a mistake or they have serious issues with this product. Even at 10,000 miles and never being off road I struggle with thinking I would need an alignment.

Beware

By Cole

Comments about Mud-Terrain T/A KM:

17,000 miles and will need to be replaced. Almost all on road. Tires wore unevenly and are now very, very noisy. Lugs of the tires are at different heights. Terrible tire. I own 3 jeeps and thank goodness only my 2014 rubicon has these tires. Will need to replace them next week. Read the warranty and it sounds like they don't back the tire for this type of wear - of course because that is how they wear.

Comments about Mud-Terrain T/A KM:

While the pavement performance of the tires is ok, I'm very dissapointed with the the ability of these tires to hold up to very light off road use. These tires came standard on my 2015 Jeep Rubicon that I purchased in 11/2014 and I'm unhappy to report that a lug on my right rear tire was torn 2-1/2" during this truck's very first off road use. This happened on a simple dirt road with small rocks and in my estimation could have traveresed in highway tires without problems. There's no reason for this to happen to these tires that are supposed to be off road capable. The only conclusion I can derive is that these tires are simply prone to tearing easily and thus are not a good value. I wonder what would have happened if I had really ventured into more difficult terrain. Shaking my head...
