                    Comments about g-Force Rival:

I bought the BFG Rival tires for street and HPDE events. Previously I used the BFG R1s at HPDE events.

After about 800 street miles and a few days at Mid-Ohio Sportscar Course I can see why everyone is impressed with the new Rival tires. They have excellent street manners for an Extreme Summer tire with good ride qualities, outstanding grip and minimal tread noise only noticed on grooved concrete or major tar strips.

When it comes to track use the Rival really does deliver just as the demo videos above substantiate. Turn in is crisp and precise. Grip is exceptional and only about 10% behind the R1s as far as I can tell. The grip plateau at the limit is very wide and allows you to adjust your line even when at the very limit. Braking is strong with good feedback.

As if that were not enough the wear rate appears to be amazing in my experience. After 200 track miles and 800 street miles I measured about 1/32 of wear across the tread with about 2/32 on the side radius as you'd expect on the front tires from negative camber and steering input. Being able to swap the tires to any position on the car means it's easy to even out wear should it occur on some cars.

One really nice feature on the Rivals vs. other tires is that they grip immediately. Track only slicks usually take a few laps to really grip. On the out lap in cool weather (60 F) track tires can bite you and I've almost experienced this myself. The Rivals being a true street tire compound, they just work immediately with no drama. Like track tires however the compound gets sticky with heat so they also improve after a couple laps but are just great to start with.

Several HPDE instructors asked me about the Rival's performance and they were impressed when they observed in firsthand on the track. IMO BFG really hit a home run with the Rival. Everyone that I talked to at the track who had tried them were quite happy and felt they delivered as advertised. No special heat cycling or other break-in procedures were required.

I've driven on enough extreme performance and track only tires to appreciate just how good the Rival tires are. They make life really great for those who want one tire that does it all. You can drive on these everyday with excellent comfort and take your car to the track whenever the opportunity presents itself without having to lug a second set of tires and do the swap at the track. At the end of the day you drop the tire pressures back to street levels and away you go. No dram or work involved. It makes life a whole lot easier.

The BFG Rival is an amazing UHP tire. I logged over 4000 miles and 80 Laps on one set of Rivals during the 2013 One Lap of America. The dry handling of this tire will make you forget you are on a 200 TW street tire. Very crisp steering response, consistent laps without fall-off and amazing wear characteristics.
