Whether your tire can be repaired comes down to two things: where the damage is and how big it is. Punctures in the tread area up to 1/4 inch and away from the shoulder are typically repairable by a professional using a patch-and-plug installed from inside the tire. Sidewall punctures, shoulder damage, and any tire driven while flat cannot be safely repaired and must be replaced.

Store tires indoors in a clean, cool, dark location away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and anything that generates ozone such as electric motors and generators. Ozone attacks rubber aggressively and can produce visible sidewall cracking quickly. Clean each tire before storing, note which position it came from, and keep the storage surface free of grease, gasoline, and solvents that degrade rubber.
