Review Summary

The tires provide good all-around performance, with praise for their traction, smooth ride, and appearance. However, some customers report poor traction and handling in wet weather, as well as rapid and uneven tread wear. There are also complaints about road noise and the need for frequent rebalancing. Customers should carefully consider their driving needs before purchasing these tires.

I recommend this tire

Trail Terrain

Fifteen thousand miles on them in all types of weather and off-roading conditions, from Colorado high country winters to California flooding rains. I went wheeling in the Rockies and Death Valley, and they have never had a problem in Heavy rain and mud and snow. They are very good daily driver, and much quieter and smoother than the KO2. I have not experienced any of the issues that others have, but I have been driving in bad weather for 30 years, and with my Tacoma with a manual trans and four-wheel drive, I have no doubt that these tires will handle any terrain that most of us will through at them. I also went from 16 MPG city, and 19 MPG HWY, to 20 MPG city, and 25 HWY MPG, overall, I'm very happy with these tires.

California Super Storms 2023 / 3rd Gen 4Runner

Just spent 3 days in the Tahoe Basin with these tires. I wasn't sure how well they would do but I was utterly surprised. Long story told short.... I arrived in Tahoe after 11.5hrs of delays in the Sierras because of avalanches and accidents. (Typically a 4hr trip) Made it to our Tahow house at 4am. The streets were 2ft deep in fresh snow. We drove through this deep powder at 4am in the dark and getting stuck was NOT an option we cared to experience. Our 2001 Toyota 4Runner 4WD with CLD plowed slowly and surely. Stopped when we needed to and regained traction and continued on. The 2023 Super Storms in California were the perfect snow test. I highly recommend these tires. IG @calspeed

My recommendation would be to avoid the Trail-Terrain T/A

Relatively quiet tires, and overall they do look great. Unfortunately the performance (specifically wet-weather and snow) is very sub-par. I’ve never had to contend with the issue of rear tire slippage from a stop on wet roads until I had Trail Terrains. I have voiced my concerns to both Discount Tire from where these were purchased, and to BFGoodrich. Big shout-out to Discount Tire in Holland, Michigan! Customer service is top-tier! And there willingness to resolve the issues: from one tire having balancing issues, another tire replaced due to defect, to even offering to swap out the tires for a different brand and providing partial credit, even though BFG was being just as difficult with them after BFG directed me to return to Discount Tire to have the tires inspected. Records of timely rotations and balance didn’t even help. After approximately 50,000 miles on these tires (about 18,000 on one of them), I will be looking to have new tires installed, and it definitely will not be these Trail-Terrains.

Majorly disappointed in these Trail Terrains

Replaced a 3 yr old set of grabber at3 LT tires for these 3 months ago and am left very disappointed. These seemed like the perfect solution to a more aggressive, yet forgiving tire for the road, but still offered good winter attributes. How wrong I was. First, I will say that these are nice on dry pavement, mostly quiet, except when braking from over 30mph, they sound like worn out MT tires, they also have a nice ride. This is where the positives end. I was hoping for a smoother ride, which I got, good in the snow, which they are not, and possible better gas mileage coming from a heavy LT tire, which they don’t provide. Being in Colorado, we get a variety of winter conditions, thus far these are unsafe in slush, I almost hydroplaned into a guardrail at 30mph. In heavy wet snow, I fishtail around every corner, in light fluffy snow they are ok. It seems like they have no lateral traction. I know that not all 3 mountain peak rated tires are not the same, but these are no better than any other tire. These are on a 2017 Nissan Armada also, not a pick-up, so there is plenty of weight in the rear. I don’t know what to do next, take them off and eat a big chunk to go back to the Generals, or stick it out for a couple more years dealing with an unsafe tire in the snow.

Beware of failing sidewalls

I purchased a set of 4 Trail-Terrain T/A in 2024 so far i have 1 replaced under warranty now another side wall is failing it it now getting replaced. I have absolutely no confidence in these tires at all. I can understand 1 but now the 2nd with less than 10k miles. something is wrong with the tires. they were rotated once and looked ok now they are falling apart. I have never had an issue with any of my BFG tires till now. I will never buy BFGs again after this set.

Trail Terrain, that's funny

Trail Terrain that's funny. These can't even handle paved road terrain. I didn't even have these 6 months before one started falling apart. A budge and rip in the side wall. I have only been able to drive on paved roads and grass with these so far. I put them on a light weight GMC Terrain SUV. I am used to AT truck tires on my 1/2 ton and 1 ton. These have good grip and I like the look but, not the quality. I did not expect to have to buy a new tire in less than 6 months. I have driven other brands through a lot more that paved roads and never had this problem. I doubt I will buy BFGoodrich tires again. Seems like a lot of hype with poor results.

Great ride

I purchased this set of four tires a little more than a week ago and boy what a difference they have made in the ride and handling of my truck.

One of the poorest performing tires I’ve ever owned.

Purchased the Trail Terrains a few years back. I normally run KO2s on my summer off-road adventure vehicle and Generals for my year round adventure vehicle/daily driver (better on ice than KO2s). I’ve been running this combination for years on my 4Runner and Land Cruiser with excellent results. Sadly the Generals were discontinued. I decided to give the Trail Terrains a go. I am completely disappointed with the performance of the Terrains. These are nothing like the Grabbers I’ve used through the typical Michigan winters. Dry and wet performce were good, but performance suffered in deep snow, ice, freezing rain and slush. Less than a year on these tires, I returned to Discount Tire voicing my disappointment. They offered to get BFGoodrich involved, but explained that, unless there was something physically wrong with the tires, BFGoodrich will not do anything, and instead offered a credit (depending on mileage) towards a purchase of another set of tires, explaining I wasn’t the first complaint with these tires. I asked to get BFGoodrich involved, and just as the folks at Discount Tire predicted, BFGoodrich wouldn’t do anything. I decided to stay with the tires until replaceent time. That was about two years ago. Now with 45,000 miles on these, I’m getting them replaced with something else.

Good value & function

5K miles on them - rain & snow over the last few months, and am quite happy with them as replacements for my Falken Wildpeaks. Less aggressive looking, but quieter and a touch better mileage with 3-peak snow rating - not too many that claim that combo. Not experiencing any issues in wet weather - an in Oregon we got plenty o' that! I can make any tire have issues in wet, so I suspect the negative reviews regarding wet performance are a function of the user. All this and a 60K warranty!

Simply awesome.

Just had these put on my 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe. Nice fit and traction. Love the fact that these give me a little more sidewall to protect the rim. Had some issue with curb rash on my rims with the stock tires. I also lobe the look.

Excellent Hybrid Tire

These tires have been excellent! Smooth on-highway ride but aggressive off-road capabilities when needed. They have been on my 2018 Chevy Silverado Z71 P275/65r18 for a little less than year now and been through all 4 seasons. Road traction is supurb through corners, wet traction is awesome, and snow and ice was phenomenal.
