Tom Holm is the founder of EcoTrek Foundation, a nonprofit with the goal of preserving cultural and natural resources through renewable power, products and practices. A major part of EcoTrek’s business involves converting and modifying vehicles to be more environmentally friendly for demanding expeditions.

You could call John Rathwell a lot of things. A photographer, a former pro kayaker, an amateur mechanic, a volunteer firefighter, a coffee roaster, an adventurer...the list goes on. But no matter his job title, he’s an unwavering optimist with an uncanny ability to make the most out of life, no matter what obstacles it throws his way.

On break at work in August of 2022, Adam Masters indulged in an all-too-familiar habit for car enthusiasts across the world: scrolling through the used car section of Facebook Marketplace “just to see what’s out there.” It’s a tight used vehicle market everywhere, but especially in California, where Adam co-owns Squirrel Concepts, a small auto shop in East Long Beach. So, on this random Thursday morning, he had his search radius set as high as it will go.

The first car club in America was a group of kooky inventors. You may know some of their names: John Lambert, Henry Ford, Charles and Frank Duryea, David Buick, Alex Winton, Louis Chevrolet, Ransom Olds. They were sharp, eccentric men who were feared by their neighbors, humored by their wives, and deeply doubted by every banker in town.

In the spring of 2013, Richard and Ashley Giordano needed a change. Apparently, a big one. They sold their belongings, quit their jobs and became full-time adventurers—a decision that would let them explore the world, one trip at a time.
